Luxe Travel: Top Luxury Ski Resorts

As winter kicks into full gear, it’s time to break out the cute ski outfits and hit the slopes…or at least the lodge with a cup of cocoa while your friends hit the slopes. Many vacations can still be wonderful even if the accommodations don’t pan out as well as I wanted them to. However, a ski trip is not one of those. The resort makes the experience. Both the lodge and the private accommodations must be warm, cozy, and catering to a guest’s every need. I’ve been to resorts where the lodges are overrun with guests, and it can try even the most laid back traveler’s patience. With these top luxury ski resorts, you won’t face this problem – they are spacious, cozy and perfect winter getaways.

Post Hotel & Spa, Lake Louise, Canada

Located in the Banff National Park, Post Hotel is a luxurious retreat with beautiful views, conveniently only five minutes away from the ski slopes. Perhaps the resort with the smallest spaces on this list, Post Hotel has a cozy lodge and accommodations set in an idyllic setting. There are four stellar dining options including an English style pub and a fondue specialty restaurant as well as daily afternoon tea in the lobby. The resort also offers a small boutique, salt water pool, fitness center, and spa offering massages, facials, nail services, body treatments, and waxing. The area is a snow bunny’s heaven, offering ski slopes, cross-country skiing, sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowshoe tours, snowmobile tours, and ice skating. The best accommodation on the property is the Watson House, boasting 3,000 sq ft with four bedrooms with ensuite, a large dining room, kitchen, and perhaps the best amenity – the stellar views of the Pipestone River, steps away from the house.

Stein Ericksen Lodge Deer Valley, Park City, Utah

As a Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond hotel, it is quickly apparent to see why the Stein Ericksen Lodge has achieved such a stellar ranking. It’s all about the experience and service at the Stein, with award winning dining, a 23,000 sq ft spa, and luxurious suites with up to 3,000 sq ft of rustic chic furnishings. The resort has so much to offer – ski in/ski out access, shuttle service to Park City, a heated parking garage, pool, jacuzzi, 24 hour room service, beauty salon, boutique shopping, gym, sauna, steam bath, two dining options, a bar and lounge, and a full-service business center. The Grand Suites offer spacious accommodations for up to 14 people with cozy fireplaces (including one in the master bedroom), gorgeous views, a full kitchen, dining area and private deck. In addition to the world class skiing, the area offers snowmobiling, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, hot air balloons, and day trips to Park City for even more shopping, dining and fun.

Badrutt’s Palace, St. Moritz, Switzerland

Located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Badrutt’s Palace is a warm haven dedicated to top notch service, comfort and tradition. Dating back to 1896, the Palace has a long history and tradition of stellar hospitality. The resort boasts six restaurants, a bar, night club, a treatment centre devoted to facials, body treatments, and hair and nail services, a full spa with a sauna, ice room, steam room, and massage shower rooms, spa suites with jacuzzis, pool, and meeting and event spaces and even an ice rink. The 3,000 sq ft Hans Badrutt Suite is the most exclusive retreat, with an Italian marbled entryway, 3 bedrooms with ensuite, a library, salons, kitchenette, steam bath, jacuzzi, dressing room and terrace.

Snake River Lodge & Spa, Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Located in the heart of Teton Village, Snake River Lodge is nestled at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain, just a few hundred feet from the famous Jackson Hole Mountain Aerial Tram, and a mile away from Grand Teton National Park. The resort offers rustic luxury, with an award winning western cuisine restaurant and bar, a 17,000 sq ft, five story, full service spa with saunas and steam rooms, indoor/outdoor pools with coves and waterfalls, indoor/outdoor jacuzzis, full service ski valet, adventure center offering tours and activities, fitness room, and meeting and event spaces. The Penthouse Residences offer the most luxury, offering up to four bedrooms and 3,000 sq ft. The largest residence has four private ensuites, fully furnished gourmet kitchen, dining area, living area with fireplace, a master bedroom with fireplace, steam shower and jetted tub. Oh, and it’s little, but the in-room coffee service is Starbucks. As an overpriced coffee addict, this resort speaks to me.

The Little Nell, Aspen, Colorado

A five star and five diamond hotel, The Little Nell is a gem tucked between the city of Aspen and Aspen Mountain. A perfect location between the diversions of the city and the ski slopes, the Little Nell offers modest amenities with a heated outdoor pool, jacuzzi, grocery and personal shopping services, complimentary airport transit as well as around town, two restaurants, two bars, and plenty of meeting and event spaces. While there is no spa on site, the concierge will arrange for appointments in the many nearby spas and salons. The residences offer the most spacious accommodations with ski in/ski out access at the base of Aspen Mountain. A dedicated ski concierge is located just inside the property before the gondola to take care of every skiing need you can imagine. The 2-4 bedroom residences have private decks and furnished balconies, living rooms with fireplace, full gourmet kitchens, marble baths with rain showers and separate soaking tubs, and private residence access to the rooftop pool deck with a pool, water garden, gym, and yoga studio – all with a stunning view.
