{PFW Fall 16 RTW} Elie Saab’s Boho Grunge

It started last season. And Elie Saab is continuing his efforts to evolve beyond the dreamy, ethereal sheerness that made him so red carpet hot in the first place. Despite the fact that most of us (I believe) were far from sick of seeing his wispy, shimmering, fluttering gowns, he wanted to evolve in his collections before we moved on.

And so he continues to broaden the label, this season with boho grunge high slit maxis and biker jackets. Fringe, lace, beading, and leather, and a gorgeous tie dye technique all create a heavy rock and roll feel to this bohemian bombshell Saab is designing for.

What makes Saab so special is that he can take any motif – Oscars red carpet sophistication and perfection or youthful boho grunge, and still create the same incredible level of intricate, precise detail work. They are works of beauty – even the most dressed down day look.

And of course, the runway eventually turned to Saab’s bread and butter – gorgeous evening wear. This time, there was a lot of lace, fringe, and fur. The princess dress was gone, and in it’s place was incredible variations of the jumpsuit. A tuxedo cape was stunning over a fringe maxi.

When the young buyers jump on Saab (and they will), they will certainly become lifetime buyers once they realize how stunning and intricate all of his work really is compared to many designers.

  1. I am liking this direction in fashion. I have always been in love with the boho look. For the past few years I have embraced the romanticism with all the lace, layers and accessories on top of accessories. Seeing this boho-grunge evolution adds a new dimension that is so interesting. It all feels a little more edgy, perhaps a little more grown up.
