Luxe Travel: 6 of the Top Luxury Resorts in Phuket Island, Thailand

Known as the “Pearl of the Andaman”, Phuket (poo-ket) is 24 long miles on an island of widely diverse towns. Depending on where you happen to be, it may not even feel like an island at all.

If you want the bustling party atmosphere, and popping nightlife, Patong – to the southwest – is the place to go. This place has hundreds of restaurants, go go bars, and nightclubs. The trade off is crowded beaches and crowded streets, but if you’re the social type that may not be a bad thing.

Phuket Town is the historical and cultural hub of the island. Head to Old Town for a total immersion in Thai culture, with Buddhist shrines, Chinese temples, cafes, shops, and museums – all in walkable historic row houses.

At the northwest side of the island sits Mai Khao Beach, the home of several of our luxury resorts. The beautiful beaches and relatively close proximity to the airport make this a great spot for some pampering on the beach.

6. Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas

The resort also offers a wide array of activities in case total relaxation isn’t enough for you, including Thai cooking classes, Muay Thai kickboxing,  bicycling, tennis, water sports, yoga, and there’s even a kids’ club for family friendly activities.

Accommodations in the Anantara Villas caters to groups and families, with up to 3 bedrooms. The floor to ceiling sliding glass doors open up onto the poolside patio. The largest group villas offer a spacious 1,500 sq ft with 2 kitchens, indoor and outdoor dining, a living area, and 2 private pools.

Couples can choose either a traditional western ceremony or a Thai ceremony with Buddhist blessings. Packages include flowers, cake, and champagne. You can also add some unique Thai elements to your ceremony, like a ride on an elephant, or arrival by a longtail boat, or even a turtle release.

Nestled just to the north of the Sirinat National Park, The Slate Resort (formerly the Indigo Pearl) was designed using the tin mining heritage of Phuket as inspiration. This 177 accommodation resort doesn’t even offer regular rooms. It’s an all villa, all suite destination of total luxury with 7 private pool villas, 8 restaurants and bars, 3 outdoor pools – one with a swim up bar, a beach club, fitness center, art gallery, tennis courts, a dive center, a snooker and billiards hall, a kids’ club, and a full service spa. What makes a stay at The Slate so special is the lush, green grounds, the rich, rustic interiors, and the impeccable design. From the moment you step foot on the property, it just feels like a luxurious spa-like getaway. Tell me that pool doesn’t look enticing.

They make dining a world class experience, with a top notch Sunday brunch, an authentic Thai outdoor restaurant floating over the lagoon, a modern fusion bar and restaurant, a steakhouse, a snooker hall featuring craft cocktails and rare whiskey, a coffee bar with lunch faire and desserts, a poolside cafe, a beachside cafe offering pizzas and sunset cocktails, and in-room dining options. You won’t get tired of the food here.

The private pool villas offer exclusive amenities in luxury accommodations up to over 8,000 sq ft. in a 1 or 2 bedroom villa. These guests receive fast track VIP service at the airport as well as private butler service, packing and unpacking (yes please), in-villa breakfasts, 30-minute in-villa complimentary yoga, Pilates or Muay Thai boxing, a personalized fitness trainer in-villa for private yoga or pilates classes, a jet-lag massage for 2, as well as daily turn-down cookies. It’s the little things. The villas are all en-suite with a private garden, pool, massage beds, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, dining and living areas, as well as a large patio with a grill and bar.

Weddings are breathtaking experiences at The Slate. I’ve seen so many resorts create cookie cutter ceremony experiences. And I just don’t get it. When you have an amazing luxury resort with beachfront property, why not match the quality of your wedding services? The Slate creates completely tailored wedding experiences, limited only by your imagination. The ceremony backdrops I’ve seen from them look stunning. I’m seriously considering this location for a future vow renewal location!
