{Paris Fashion Week Spring17 Couture} Christian Dior’s Magical Garden

We already knew the amazing work that Maria Grazia Chiuri was capable of when she worked at the house of Valentino…and now we’re really seeing her shine. This was the first couture collection of Christian Dior with Chiuri at the helm, and it was everything we wanted it to be.

Held at Paris’ Musee Rodin, the setting of the show was a 360 degree magical forest, including a stunning wishing tree, mirrored sky that glimmered with the reflecting lights, and even a hedge maze outside of the show. Amazing, Ms. Chiuri. And that’s not even addressing the collection yet.

The clothes? These are the things fairy tale dreams are made of. The collection began with dark Little Red Riding Hood style travel garments – heavy hooded coats and capes, peplum jackets over maxi skirts, and a single burnt orange quilted gown – the transition piece.

The looks slowly evolved through a parade of ethereal fairy tale perfection. Delicate swathes of sheers draped around shoulders, a ruffle ombre vest in soft blue to pink fell all the way to the floor over a blush gown, an elevated pick-up dress in cobalt reminded me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast – stunning, not hokey. Headpieces with flowers and feathers were huge, and in a few cases, almost distracting from the clothing…but really, who cares?

I’m really starting to think Maria Grazia Chiuri simply has the Midas touch.
