It was a display of fireworks on Zuhair Murad‘s Spring 2017 couture runway – the designer taking literal inspiration from the advanced pyrotechnic displays of Japan. The concept was realized through a few playsuits and jumpsuits, but mostly gowns of eye-popping color.
A favorite design house for the A-list red carpet, Ralph & Russo keeps stepping up their game. For the Spring 2017 couture collection, the magic team Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo wanted to offer a variety of red carpet worthy looks to every type of woman, focusing around the thought of empowerment. With Kirsten Dunst in attendance, I’m wondering if we might see one of these dresses on her in one of the coming awards shows….
Lagerfeld took it back to soft sophistication (with a twist) in a sugary sweet palette accentuated by metallics for his Spring 2017 Chanel couture collection. The looks, classically feminine, were realized through variations of the house signature boucle jacket, and a parade of dresses and gowns in silver sequins, paillets, rhinestones, and feathers. Oh, the feathers.
So this year wasn’t too kind to us as a collective group. We lost some of our most beloved artists and celebrities like Prince, David Bowie, and Carrie Fisher; regardless of political affiliations, most Americans feel like we all lost in the presidential elections; Brexit happened to our fellow UK friends across the pond; the Zika virus took many hostage; hostilities climaxed in police shootings and civil unrest; terror attacks across the globe; Syria; and somehow we still haven’t managed to lose Kanye West.
Claire Pettibone has always been a personal favorite – so distinct in her vintage 1920’s – 1940’s inspired aesthetic. Femininity shines through, but for the artsy, creative bride…or the bride who appreciates a bit of old fashioned flounce…or the bride who wants something romantic and bohemian.
Temperley London went for it this time with a Fall 2017 collection full of bohemian fantasy, modern romance and even some pops of color.
I have so much love for the Temperley London looks – they’re always light as air ethereal, but so creative in the way they are infused with glamour and bling like a racer back embroidered with crystals, a floating hand-beaded shoulder, intricate sheer lace panels…it’s all so luxe, but so light.
Just 7 dresses made Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2017 bridal collection in celebration of her 35th year in business. The designer wanted to return to the heritage of her first dress – the elegance, sophistication, and grandeur of the first dress she created.
The Alon Livné White runway opened with an off-the-shoulder feathered peplum top over sleek trousers with a giant wide-brimmed hat introduced what promised to be a modernist’s show.
And in a flash that aesthetic was gone, ushering in intricately embellished Spanish Art Nouveau-inspired looks that any romantic would die for. Confusing? Absolutely, but at least he filled the perplexed air with pretty…lots of pretty. And did I mention tiaras? (Sidenote: There’s one in here that reminds me of Princess Bride. Cult classic nostalgia!)
For the bride looking for something a little different from the traditional, husband and wife team Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia may be the way to go for the Fall 2017 season. Their focus of inspiration was strength within grace – definitely an unusual concept for bridal.
With a Madison Avenue store set to open in 2017, it was New York as Elie Saab’s muse for his Fall 16 Couture collection, which was chock full of sheer Saab staples, but a few new surprises as well.
