Monique Lhuillier is rethinking how she presents her fashion collections. In this era of major fashion industry evolution, the designer has opted out of a runway show to display her Fall 2017 collection in favor of a lookbook, which can better capture those sumptuous textures and details which can often get lost on runway photos. Think haute catalog. It’s business, after all.
Whether it’s a date, a night out with the girls, or an anti-Valentine’s Day – VDay party, we just want to look good and feel good on and around Feb 14th. Single or taken, I like to look at it as that silly day the greeting card industry created to sell more cards, but that I now get to take advantage of to go out and have a good time. So thanks greeting card industry – the restaurant industry is now reaping the rewards more so than anything…from me at least! And of course, we have to look cute. So shopping! Let’s take a look at some of the best Valentine’s Day looks out there right now.
We already knew the amazing work that Maria Grazia Chiuri was capable of when she worked at the house of Valentino…and now we’re really seeing her shine. This was the first couture collection of Christian Dior with Chiuri at the helm, and it was everything we wanted it to be.
So too has Alberta Ferretti climbed aboard the slow moving train toward progress in the business of fashion. Her latest show was a Pre-Fall see-now-buy-now capsule, mashed with her Limited Edition collection, mashed with a few men’s looks thrown in.
It was the Duchess Kate that stole the show from husband the Duke and Prince Harry during a Heads Together Campaign, the trio’s royal foundation charity for mental health public projects.
Britney Spears just posted a peek at her latest shoot on instagram, saying #Current Mood: Feeling good about 2017…
Giambattista Valli has always created ultra feminine fashion with a French flair. Previous collections would make any romantic swoon…like a few seasons back when he put Gigi Hadid in that yellow Georgette gown, or pretty much his entire Spring 16 Couture collection of fantastically feminine silhouettes. He is a classicist at heart with modernist ideas. One of my favorite kind of designers.
And for the Spring 17 RTW season, he took to the idea of lingerie as outerwear, much like the current model posse, including his long-time staple runway anchor Gigi Hadid often showcases in her street style with crop tops, bra tops, hot pants, and workout gear. It is a dressed down decade, and to that end Valli wanted to explore a little. Only on his runway, the underthings were flirty, romantic, and super feminine. Gigi wore a black satin bra with matching high-waist panties under an open lace pleat skirt with a puff sleeve jacket.
Dolce & Gabbana are embracing cultural change, and through their Spring 2017 RTW show we got to see their fresh perspective on what a runway show should be. Instead of buyers and A-listers, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce gathered a squad of 21 media savvy milliennials like Luka Sabbat, Brandon Dallas, Dylan Jagger Lee, and Sofia Richie to Insta, Snapchat, and live stream their experience.
When Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody is playing, you know the energy of the collection is going to be high. Infused with the ’70’s vibe, Zuhair Murad‘s Fall 2016 Couture collection broke out of the princess shimmer gown stereotype and went a little rocker, a little hippie chic, and a little Gustav Klimt art piece.
The base looks were very much house Murad, with sheer skintight embroidered body silhouette gowns, jumpsuits, a caftan, mini dresses, and a stunning bridal gown to close the show. The vintage 70’s vibe was infused with ruffled hemlines over thigh high boots, velvet capes, dipped down cartwheel hats, and intricate macrame embroideries.
With a Madison Avenue store set to open in 2017, it was New York as Elie Saab’s muse for his Fall 16 Couture collection, which was chock full of sheer Saab staples, but a few new surprises as well.
