Monique Lhuillier is rethinking how she presents her fashion collections. In this era of major fashion industry evolution, the designer has opted out of a runway show to display her Fall 2017 collection in favor of a lookbook, which can better capture those sumptuous textures and details which can often get lost on runway photos. Think haute catalog. It’s business, after all.
For his Spring 2017 RTW collection, Tadashi Shoji took inspiration from artist Wu Junyong, whose surreal works include The Flying Ark, featuring a crane in flight, lifting a tree full of animals above the scorched earth in rapture.
Despite the dark subject matter, the visuals of the animated short film and Tadashi Shoji’s compositional interpretations are, as Shoji put it “light, light, light, light”.
The Kate Spade show was held on the NoMad Hotel rooftop in a Moroccan-themed display including a tea ceremony as well as belly dancing, and of course the clothes. The staple preppy code of the Kate Spade label is pared back this season for a more polished bohemian vibe in colorful patterned looks.
Watching some of the designer runways, I get the impression that they just don’t have the ability to create a ready to wear collection. It’s just not in their blood. They must show their art, in its highest form, and sometimes without much consideration to how it actually accentuates the body wearing it.
Wondering what to wear to the July 4th parties this weekend? My go-to place for the best last minute designer looks has always been RTR. No, this isn’t a collab post – they have no idea I’m writing this! I discovered them several years ago, tried them out, and have been addicted ever since. Especially since I’m a last minute planner.
So if you still don’t have a dress for a party this weekend, take a look. Their really quick shipping is a lifesaver. Another bonus: A lot of the dresses come with a free second size just in case the first one isn’t the right fit. A totally necessity for in-between sizers like me!
Fashion savant Alessandra Ambrosio stepped was in Paris this week to walk in the Balmain runway show. Of course, her street style was Balmain and on point, as she was working one of my favorite up and coming style trends – the minimalist suit.
Pair a sleek blazer over a tee, tank or bodysuit with a pair of skinny jeans, or like Alessandra wore, some ripped up cropped jeans. And seriously, how adorable is her daughter?!
Last week Heidi Klum hosted a Lingerie Ice Cream Truck and Shopping Party for Heidi Klum Intimates by Heidi Klum at Macy’s in NYC.
The supermodel turned Project Runway host and lingerie designer handed out free cones filled with her lingerie to 500 lucky fans in celebration of the launch of her line. So cheeky!
Carolina Herrera opted for modern classicism with her Resort 2017 collection, and all I can say is oh. my. word. perfection.
After 35 years in the designing business, this year is a bit of a milestone for her, and the collection definitely feels a bit nostalgic for heritage Herrera. Perfect for the current fashion clime that can’t seem to get enough of the vintage-inspired.
